Identity theft is serious and happens more often than you may think, and these days it can be tough keeping your identity protected.
"Identity theft is really becoming an issue these days. It's something we're really having to raise awareness about," Gilmore Service Territory Manager Meagan Mangold explained.
For that reason, FOX10 News is committed to helping you protect yourself by teaming up with Gilmore Services for a free Shred Event.
"Anything that has personal identifiable information," Mangold said. "Health information, health insurance information, financial information, legal information, really anything with your first name or first initial in conjunction with your last name those are things you really need to properly dispose of."
Fox10 News' previous shred events with Gilmore Services were big success. Nearly 900 cars pulled through our parking lot, and 40,000 pounds of documents were shredded. This year, we're expecting the same turn out, if not bigger, and the process is really simple.
"Individuals (No Businesses)
can bring up to two boxes or two bags of information to be shredded right there on site. We ask that individuals stay in their cars. We're going to have volunteers to remove the materials from your car. We also do ask you remove the large black binder clips as well as any metal fasteners, staples and paper clips are fine, but we do recycle all of the material so we do want to make sure we maintain the integrity of the material," Mangold said.
The Shred Event will be Saturday May 19th from 8 a.m. to noon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
