Jason Smith

Chief Meteorologist

Chief Meteorologist Jason Smith has tracked severe storms and hurricanes at FOx10 News for the past 10 years.

Jason is a certified broadcast meteorologist and completed a three-year course study with Mississippi State University. Jason holds the National Weather Association's Television Seal of Approval.

He is also a graduate of The University of Mississippi with a double major in English and Journalism. Jason specializes in on air forecasting, computer graphics, and web design for the weather department.

Jason Smith is the Evening Meteorologist for FOX10 News and can be seen weekdays at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. He also provides weather updates on WFNA, Fox10tv.com, and Weather Now on Cox Cable.

Jason started at WALA FOX10 News in 1999 and served as weekend meteorologist until 2002. He was promoted to morning meteorologist, and held that role until the spring of 2009. Jason gained valuable experience as he tracked many tropical systems, including Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina, while working with then-Chief Meteorologist John Edd Thompson.

Though he attended both Ole Miss and Mississippi State, he is an avid Ole Miss fan. Also, Jason enjoys fishing and hunting along the Gulf Coast. Part of being an outdoorsman is understanding and being aware of the weather.

This is what sparked Jason's interest in meteorology. His Outdoor segments air on FOX10 News on Thursdays at 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., and again at 5:30 p.m. Jason is also the host of Outdoors with Jason Smith, which can be seen on WFNA on Saturday nights at 10 p.m. and on FOX10 News on Sundays at 10 a.m.

Jason is married to Emily Ryan Smith of St. Francisville, La. and the couple has one daughter, Emma Krouse, one son, Wes, and a dog - Doc (Yellow Lab).
