Know the parking, towing rules for Mardi Gras

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile gets into the Mardi Gras spirit Friday night, January 25 as the Conde Cavaliers take to the streets.

The parade follows the normal parade route , beginning at the Mobile Civic Center at 6:30.

Mobile Police said there are things you need to know before you go to the parade, especially about parking and towing.

Corporal Christopher Levy with the Mobile Police Department said, "If you see a sign with a picture of a tow truck towing away a vehicle, my advice is to believe the sign."

Parking along a parade route is prohibited two hours before and two hours after a parade. If you are parked along a route during this time, you will be towed.

A temporary impound lot for towed vehicles will be located at South Water Street and Monroe Street until 11 p.m. After that time, you will need to go to 1251 Virginia Street to retrieve your vehicle.

Levy said, "It's $125 f your car gets impounded to get it out of our impound."

There are many locations for the public to park for the parades. The cost of parking varies. If you park on the street, do not block driveways or other vehicles.

Police said don't cross the barricades.

If you do, you could be ticketed and have to pay a fine of $238.

And, don't bring pets to the parade.

Levy said, "There are no pets allowed at Mardi Gras, and people always bring their pets down there, and claim they've been doing it for years."
