MOBILE, Ala. - FOX10 is about to tell you about some amazing four-year-old's. Wait until you hear what these preschoolers are doing. They're going way above what you might expect this holiday season to help others.
Preschoolers from the Just 4 Developmental Lab are working very hard to make this holiday season a little brighter-and warmer- for those in need. They have teamed up with Volunteers of America for "Operation Stay Warm." It's one of the VOA's Ten Caring Gifts.
These little students have already collected dozens of blankets. They're already well on their way to their goal of 200. Tania and Victoria say they are happy to help those who need it.
"The people that need a home need to be warm."
"Because it's cold."
Teachers and staff actually began collecting blankets about five years ago. It started as a faculty project, but expanded because the kids and their parents wanted to get involved. Principal Linda Blassingame says it's also a great learning experience for the kids.
"They are so excited about giving. One of the things we teach at Just 4 is that we give of ourselves to the community, and it just makes a better world. And they are very excited about helping other children and people."
Principal Blassingame says it's so important to start teaching children about giving back early on in life. She says it's an idea that sticks with them as they grow up.
Here's the best part of all of this: you can do what these preschoolers are doing. Here on Fox10tv.com, you can find a whole list of things you can do to give back this holiday season. There's everything from monetary donations, to some hands-on help, like what these preschoolers are doing.
It's all part of Volunteers of America's Ten Caring Gifts. FOX10 is going to be working with the VOA throughout the holidays. We'll continue to show you what a difference one good deed, one person, one group can make. We really hope that you will get involved.
