GULF COAST - Calling all Santas out there! As you are out and about shopping this holiday season, we have an idea for you. How about shopping for a special child who needs some hope this time of year?

Hundreds of children are on the Volunteers of America's 'Caring Tree' this year. Each tag on the tree represent children who are separated from their families through no fault of their own. So they could use a little help celebrating the season.

We here at FOX10 have some good news: a number of these children have sponsors! So, we want to thank all of you who have already picked a card off the 'Caring Tree.' But we still need a few more of you to play Secret Santa, and take a card. Each card on the 'Caring Tree' tells you the child's name, whether you are shopping for a boy or a girl, how old the are, and it includes a Christmas wish list. After you shop volunteers will deliver your gifts in time for Christmas.

John Eads with Volunteers of America says, "What I really like is especially when we deliver the gifts to the homes of the children. It's not just the kids receiving the gifts that really enjoy it. The family sees it and the community sees it and the neighborhood asks, 'What are you doing here?' And we let them know, and that's just evidence of hope and light that's out there in this world. And that's a pretty neat experience."

But time is running out for you to shop, shop, shop. We want to make sure the gifts are delivered by Christmas! It's really easy for you to get involved and help make this holiday a bright one for a special child.

You can find all the information right here on Fox10tv.com. You can also call VOA at 251-338-1560.

We are going to be working with Volunteers of America throughout the holidays. It's all part of our Ten Caring Gifts program. We'll continue to show you what a difference one person, one group, one good deed can make. We really hope you will get involved.
