Dillinger's grave sees more visitors

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The grave of Depression-era gangster John Dillinger is seeing a surge of visitors days before the opening of a new film starring Johnny Depp as Dillinger.

Crown Hill Cemetery president Keith Norwalk says the hype about "Public Enemies," which opens in theaters Wednesday, is boosting the stream of visitors to Dillinger's grave.

Dillinger's grave has long been Crown Hill's top attraction and some visitors leave his grave with more than just memories. Over the years so many people have chipped away at the granite stone that the current marker at the cemetery is actually the fourth one to mark his grave.

Dillinger, who was born in Indianapolis and lived in nearby Mooresville, was shot to death police outside a Chicago theater in 1934. His grave is the cemetery's top attraction.
