MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - There may be lots of floats, and plenty of throws to be caught, but you just so happen to be competing with thousands of people!
You can always gain attention the old fashioned way, by begging or you can step outside the box, and go up a flight of stairs.
Some children stood on the second floor of a parking garage with a target, hoping to gain the attention of parade throwers down below.
One parade goer, 11-year-old Danielle Perry said, "We're gonna try to get as much as possible."
These girls have their system down. They gain the attention of the throwers, challenge them with a target, and if the throwers miss, there's a backup plan.
Victoria French, 13, said, "Me and my stepsister are gonna be down there (on the street). If anything hits, we're gonna get it."
But some folks didn't come here to work, they just want to chill with a good view.
For the little ones, height may be an issue. So one family brought the best seat on the block, and it towers high above the rest! The seat is nearly five feet tall! It could fit three people!
Andrew Harper, 11, said, "It is pretty big. It's definitely much larger than all these other things out here. You know?"
And then others came out to Mardi Gras to make a fashion statement from head to toe. One woman was dressed like a bunny and jumping up and down throughout the sidewalks.
Denise Bruscato wore a vest made completely from Mardi Gras beads.
Bruscato said, "My mom made this outfit for me out of the beads she's had from past Mardi Gras."
He said he hopes the parade throwers will notice.
"I sure hope so (the throwers notice). We need to make more outfits in the future,” Bruscato said.
When you come down for Mardi Gras, you're guaranteed a fun time whether you're looking at a float, or to the person right next to you.
