Authorities said an Ohio man is one of the victims killed in a fiery interstate crash Wednesday afternoon. It happened in the west bound lane just before the Loxley Exit. The accident closed part of the interstate for hours.

A deadly accident leaves its mark on I ten, charred trees from the explosion, torn up grass and scarred asphalt.

Two big rigs collided after one of them jumped the median. Lt. Doug Phillips with the Loxley Police Department was on the scene, and said it was one of the worse wrecks he's seen. "Yes, it was very severe actually shut down interstate for hours," said Lt. Phillips." One of the worse I've seen in my 15 years of law enforcement."

Alabama State Troopers were back out Thursday trying to figure out what exactly caused this accident that generated gridlock for hours. The accident was so intense, part of the road had to be paved. Thursday, traffic was thick with Fourth of July travelers.

Lt. Phillips wants this accident to serve as a reminder for drivers, anything can happen. He offers a bit of advice. "Best advice I can give, slow down and stay off the cell phone and pay attention because you never know what will happen in front of you," said Lt. Phillips.

Lt. Phillips hope's this is the last wreck of this magnitude he'll see.
