GULF SHORES, Ala. - Tom Brake's call sign is KI4JEQ and he is looking for more people to be on the other end of his radio call. "We are known as the South Baldwin Amateur Radio Club," he said.
The Radio Club is calling on all people to join with other Ham Operators.
Brake is organizing a Communications Field Day so that operators can meet one another, and test their back-and-forth radio calls.
"We are constantly learning. It's just a matter of putting it practical application and refreshing ourselves," he said.
It's a refresher course to make sure everyone is on the same page when passing along important notices during a severe weather threat.
"So if a situation arises. We can provide communications under emergency situations between shelter and the EOC Center in Robertsdale," explained Brake.
Because Brake says getting information out during a Hurricane can mean the difference between life and death.
The event will be held at Garrett Park on June 27.
It starts at 1:00 p.m. and it's free.
