MOBILE, Ala. - A black wreath hangs outside Mobile Police Headquarters. Less than two days after the death of Officer Brandon Sigler, the force is still mourning and it's turning to the Chaplain.
"I love them and I want to do everything I can to help," said Chaplain Jerry Brown.
Brown has been ministering to officers for decades. He says death is always hard to deal with, especially when it's someone this young.
"Everyday they go out to serve this community. They're aware that that can happen to them. So, this brings it a little closer to home."
Brown has spoken with dozens of officers since Sigler's death. He says they typically don't make an appointment, so he just makes himself visible.
"They will begin to talk about the officer, how they knew him, what an outstanding young man he was," Brown said. "This is how they deal with it, just talking about it."
Brown says the talks will continue for weeks, if not months, as they remember one of their own.
"This was a very fine officer, a very fine family and it's good to see our police department pull together and they're doing everything they can for the family."
