MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile community is mourning the death of police officer, Brandon Sigler. Especially those at Saint Mary's Church, who say Sigler treated everyone with love.

"That was Brandon, love your neighbor as yourself," said Deacon Earnest Johnson

Johnson has known Sigler for years. In fact, he says even as a 9th grader at McGill-Toolen he was close to God.

"Sometimes his Mom would drop him off for school and he would come in the church and pray," Johnson said.

Sigler was also a long-time alter server, who Johnson says never said "No."

"You could always call on Brandon and say 'we need someone extra for a mass or a service' and he would always say 'yes,' he was willing to come and help," Johnson said.

That's exactly what he was doing on Tuesday night, when police say he went to break up a fight and was shot.

Not even two days later, Johnson says the loss is tragic, but he knows Sigler is in a better place, "For Brandon, he lived his life where he was constantly not far from heaven. In the end, tragic as it was, he did end up closer to heaven than we are."
