MOBILE, Ala. - Friends of Officer Brandon Sigler tried to hold back tears as they question why someone so special to them was taken away so needlessly.
"He was just doing his job. It's just a senseless tragedy that should have never happened," said Derrick Williams.
Sigler attended Murphy High School from 1997-2001. Those who knew him, remember him as #48, an outstanding linebacker who gave the Murphy Panthers Football team all he had.
"He was a great teammate and fierce competitor. He was the first one on the practice field, and the first one in the weight room. I'm really going to miss him," said Williams.
"He was definitely an anchor on the team. He was one of the leaders. They looked up to him and he led by example and that's truly something you don't always find in a high school student," said Murphy High School Principal Doug Estle.
But what Principal Estle remembers most about Sigler is the Murphy Panther Pride that he had as he walked through these halls. In fact, he was voted class favorite his Senior year.
"This morning when I heard the news, it's not like I had to think about who he was, or what he looked like. I knew immediately exactly who Brandon Sigler was. He was just that special of a student and a person," said Estle.
George Bell calls Sigler the 'cornerstone' of his friends and family.
"I never knew anybody who had a bad word to say about Brandon. He was just the epitome of the word friend," said Bell.
Bell says when he heard the news, he was speechless, and is still having a difficult time facing the harsh reality that his friend has passed on. "Still now, I just can't believe that it was him and I'll never see him again," said Bell.
He may be gone, but Sigler has left a lasting footprint on the lives of everyone he knew.
