Sparkle, goes to theaters on August 17th but you have a chance to see it early, on August 15th!

Inspired by the Supremes, the original Sparkle was released in 1976 and took place in Harlem during the late 1950s.

In the re-make, set in Detroit during the 1960s, three sisters form girl group and soon become Motown sensations. But fame becomes a challenge as the close-knit family begins to fall apart.

The stars of Sparkle include Jordin Sparks, Whitney Houston, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Omari Hardwick, and Cee Lo Green.

Born to a single mother (Whitney Houston), Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) is a musical prodigy who struggles to become a star while dealing with serious family issues.

Sparkle and her sisters 'Sister' (Carmen Ejogo) and 'Delores (Tika Sumpter) chase their dream of becoming a successful singing group during the Motown era. After 'Sister' starts an abusive relationship with drug lord Satin (Mike Epps), the strength of the group is challenged.

Sparkle will be the debut for American Idol winner Jordin Sparks as an actress. It's also Whitney Houston's fifth and final feature film role. She passed away three months after filming ended.

The film will be dedicated to Whitney Houston's memory.

There will be an early free screening for Sparkle on August 15 at 7:30 pm at the Hollywood Stadium on Satchel Paige Dr.

Free passes will be given away on August 14 from Noon until 2 pm at American Gold Parties in Mobile. American Gold Parties is located at 1010 Schillinger Rd.
