Legal Mistakes Following an Accident: Part Two

Last time we talked about some mistakes people make about their medical care after being injured in an accident. Today we’re here with David Greene to help explain some legal mistakes people may make after they've been injured in a car accident.

First mistake is not hiring a lawyer who focuses on your type of case.  There are many fine lawyers in the city of Mobile, but if you were injured in an accident you really need to find a lawyer that really focuses on car wreck cases.  Every area of law is a little different and car wreck attorneys know the ins and outs of that field and can get you the most help and the biggest settlement.

2nd mistake is not keeping the lawyer informed about your injuries or changes in your life.  Once you hire a lawyer it’s very important to keep him informed of your status.  Every client of Greene & Phillips is assigned a case manager who they can contact anytime with new information about their condition.  They need to know if you are moving, going through a divorce or if you have new symptoms, any of these things can be very important information for them to know as we are working on your case.

3rd mistake is not telling your lawyer about previous injuries or wrecks.  When you sit down to talk to your lawyer, make sure you reveal all your previous injuries and accidents. They need to know if the pain you have in your shoulder is directly related to the accident or due to a previous injury, so they can make sure we get you the best settlement.

Another mistake is talking about your case to other people other than your lawyer
If you brag about how big a settlement you are going to get someone may here it get jealous and say something that may hurt your credibility with a judge or jury. You could be in a crowded room and the other party could be listening in.  As with most legal issues, you want to be very careful about what you say to who.

Don't posting details of your injury to Facebook and Twitter.  The other driver’s insurance company is out trying to find any reason they can to deny your claim, you may inadvertently say something that hurts your case if they are able to find it.

Also, don't talk to the other person's insurance company.  There is not a situation where talking to them without a lawyer present can help your claim and in most cases it can hurt your claim.

Is there hope for people that have made one or more of these mistakes?   Yes, but If you've made any of these mistakes, make sure to talk to a lawyer as soon as you can to see how they can help your claim.
