There are a lot of people these days that do not have health insurance.  Today’s question for David Greene from Greene and Phillips is...

What should someone do if they’ve been in an accident and don’t have insurance?

This is a big problem these days. The answer is get a personal injury lawyer involved who has relationships with medical providers. Through the use of letter of protects (a promise to pay) the victim can get medical treatment without the stress of paying for it until he gets his settlement.

Should you go to the hospital even if you do not have insurance?

Always go to the hospital.  It’s very important you do not have a gap in treatment -- a period of time between the accident and when you go to the doctor because there is no documentation that you have been injured. When you get that sort of documentation you really end up protecting the value of your case.

How can a personal injury attorney help get your medical bills paid?

Ultimately it is the other driver and his insurance company who is responsible for paying for your medical bills, but initially you or your health insurance are responsible for your medical treatment until you can develop a full demand for the amount you are owed. Many times you don’t have to worry about out of pocket expenses and all your bills are actually paid out of the settlement.

If an accident victim hires a lawyer are their any out of pocket expenses?

Out of pocket expenses are fronted by the law firm and the subtracted from your settlement with the lawyer fees at the end of the case when you get paid.
