Bankhead Smooth Jazz Series

Join the Rho Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and experience  the electrifying sounds of Dennis "Finger Roll" Nelson as he goes one on one against Vashon (Violins) in a "BATTLE OF THE STRINGS".

The perfect outing for FATHER'S DAY is the third installment in the Bankhead Smooth Jazz Series, a collaborative effort benefiting the American Cancer Society, the Education 4 Life Foundation, The Dennis Nelson Music Academy and the mandated Social Action Programs of Rho Alpha Chapter.

Rho Alpha Chapter has entered into a partnership with the American Cancer Society with the goal of promoting awareness of the dangers of Prostate and Colorectal Cancer, two of the major preventable causes of death among men. The Jazz Series is also a vehicle to disseminate information and encourage people to visit doctors for screenings and regular check ups.

The Education 4 Life Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and promoting positive growth and development in the communities that we serve. The Education 4 Life foundation is currently composed of outstanding professionals who proudly serve the youth in the Mobile County Public School System.

The Dennis Nelson Music Academy’s mission is to connect promising young area students with the guidance of professional musicians. Housed at the Toulminville Warren United Methodist Church, it will be more than just a place where kids will be able to go to take lessons. Students will learn everything from how to go in and record a CD to how to market a record.

Proceeds from the Jazz events will also benefit the mandated Omega Psi Phi Social Action Programs, which include mentoring, anti- illiteracy programs, and scholarships for students to attend institutions of higher learning. Your contributions and participation will directly support these worthy causes while affording patrons the opportunity to enjoy some excellent Jazz on the Gulf Coast.
