Music from the Big House documentary and concert

Rita Chiarelli, Canada’s most highly acclaimed female roots and blues artist, returns to Mobile and Avalon 360 for an encore presentation of Music from the Big House documentary and concert.  The JUNO Canadian Grammy award winning vocalist will perform a show on Wednesday, November 21, 23 and 24.

Each evening will start with a broadcast of the documentary at 6:00 pm, followed by the concert at 8:05 pm. Tickets are $20 for non-members, and $12 for members. They are available at Avalon 360 or by phone at the Bienville Club Box Office when you call 251-433-4977. Avalon 360 will open at 5:30 each evening for dinner before the concert.

Chiarelli is a gifted songwriter and entertaining performer who is known across Canada as the “Goddess of the Blues”. Her soaring 3 octave voice sets her apart from her peers, inspires awe and often tears in her audiences, and causes critics to gush.

Her journey into film grew from a pilgrimage Rita took at decade ago to the birthplace of the blues, Louisiana State Maximum Security Penitentiary. The legendary blues/folk artist William Ledbetter plied his 12-string guitar from behind those walls.

The critically acclaimed Music from the Big House is a glance into what used to be the bloodiest prison in America, but now gives lifers something to live for through the power of music. In contrast to sensational stories of convicts, we witness remarkable voices of hope as their love of music radiates humanity and redemption on their quest for forgiveness.

A portion of the weekend’s proceeds will be donated to a worthy cause. This time, proceeds will benefit The S.H.A.C.K, which was founded on integrity to be a voice for the homeless animals in Mobile County.
