The Tenors perform in Mobile

Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 8, 2012! You can see The Tenors at 7:00pm at the Saenger Theater in Mobile! Critically acclaimed tenors Victor Trent Cook, Rodrick Dixon and Thomas Young take your spirit, body and mind on a memorable and awe-inspiring musical journey through the worlds of opera, Broadway, jazz, blues, soul, spiritual, gospel and spoken word.

Victor Trent Cook is a native New Yorker who started singing at his church when he was just three years old. He was enrolled in the Brooklyn Boys Chorus School of Musical Training, under the direction of James McCarthy.  Participating in its concert choir enabled Cook to travel throughout the United States and Rome, where he sang for the Pope and later for renowned conductors.

Cook was discovered by a New York commercial agent, which led to his introduction to theatrical mogul Joseph Papp, who opened the door for him to appear in numerous Off-Broadway productions, and then to Broadway. He also competed 10 consecutive times on “Star Search,” where his repeated wins led him to gain the title of Star Search 1998 “$100,000 Male Vocal Champion!” Cook has since had appearances on various soaps and sitcoms, as well as talk shows.

Rodrick Dixon’s dramatic stage presence and stunning vocal qualities have established him as one of the rising stars in opera, contemporary opera, oratorio, concerts and recitals. In 2007, Rodrick Dixon made his LA Opera debut as Walther von der Vogelweide in Wagner’s Tannhaeuser and performed excerpts of Korngold’s Die Tote Stadt and Schuloff’s Flammen for Recovered Voices. He returned to the May Festival to sing Rossini’s Stabat Mater; appeared as Lenski in Todi Music Festival’s summer production of Eugene Onegin; and filmed the PBS special The United States Air Force 60th Anniversary: A Musical Celebration.

Thomas Young is a Grammy-award winning lyric tenor who has appeared as a principal soloist in major concert halls and opera houses in 30 countries. He serves as a tenured Professor of Music at Sarah Lawrence College and is in demand as a conductor, clinician and master class specialist. He is known for his unique dramatic and musical intelligence, as well as beauty of tone and exceptional technique,  and is recognized as today’s foremost interpreter of tenor roles in contemporary opera.

The Tenors are being brought to Mobile by 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile. The mission of the organization is to give back what the community has given them. The 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile, Inc. is a non-profit organization designed to create a pool of resourceful leaders who are committed to the formation and implementation of programs set up to enhance goals of the future.

The 100 Black Men of America dates back to 1963 when a group of businessmen, industry professionals and other professions met in New York City to explore a vision built upon the foundation of making a lasting difference in the lives of African-American youth. The members all had a passion to channel their collective resources into areas that would improve the lives of young people.
