Mobile Works

Mobile Works is the local work investment agency operating under Alabama’s Workforce Investment Act. Mobile Works provides short term training and employment programs to prepare job seekers with the necessary skills to compete in today’s job market. Mobile Works is one of three local workforce investment areas. Other local workforce areas include Jefferson County and the balance of state.

What is the OJT Program?

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program allows Mobile Works to partner with area businesses to create a customized training program for a new hire for up to 26 weeks.  Mobile works will subsidize up to 90% of those costs while the new hire completes the training phase. This program helps displaced adults get back to work. The worker will learn a new skill to help an employer grow their business.

What type of companies can participate in the OJT Program and is this training limited to certain occupations?

Most companies and non-profit agencies can participate in the training, and types of positions vary. It can be technical or semi-professional positions, as well as positions in manufacturing or transportation.

Types of jobs:

Office Manager, diesel mechanic, welders and shipfitters, chemical operator, sheet metal apprentice, truck driver, administrative assistant, truck service assistant, material handler, nurses assistant, volunteer coordinator, scaffolding helper.

The job must be eligible and the worker must be eligible

An eligible job must:
Pay at least $9.00 per hour.
Be full time work (35 hours/wk or more)
Be a new hire
Take at least 11 weeks to learn the job. (Not just labor, but a career type job)
Provide skills and knowledge that the worker does not already have.
