BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The hard economic times have affected Baldwin County again. The school board says a lack of sales revenue is why over 100 positions could be on the chopping block.
Baldwin County School Board members are considering cutting up to 125 employees to offset the lack of cash. The cuts would be for non-teaching positions, and more than 400 employees fall into that category. The school system is now waiting to see what the state will do to adjust its budget.
Baldwin County School Spokesperson Terry Wilhite said, "You know we don't want to lay anyone off and not knowing if you're going to have a job or not. Our stance is we'll let everybody know as soon as the governor lets us know what the proration is for the state budget."
School administrators say if the rainy day trust fund is big enough this year or if the governor's proration amount is small enough there may not be job cuts.
