OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WALA) - The body of Ocean Springs Police Officer Stephen Bond has been recovered nearly eight months after a boating accident left him missing at sea.

He was a husband, a father, and an officer with the Ocean Springs Police Department. Tragically, Stephen Bond was taken from all of these roles nearly eight months ago after a boat he was on capsized near Ship Island off the Mississippi Coast. Now, he will finally be put to rest.

The sun sets on the coast of Mississippi, it's an end to another day. It also brings an end to a nightmare for one family.

"We know the outcome, we know he's gone but we wanted to bring him back home," said Angela Bond.

Angela has been living a nightmare for eight months. Her husband, Stephen Bond, disappeared after a boat he was on capsized. Stephen was the only person out of five who didn't make it. Angie got word Sunday that some remains were found in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. She learned Wednesday that they were her husband's. She said she had to be strong for her children but she's thankful for the help she has received.

"I had a lot of people helping me because there was a time I thought I was going to go crazy," Angie said.

Months have passed and there have been many sleepless nights, but Angie said at least now she has some closure. She said she'll have help from friends and family, telling her kids stories about their dad. She knows they will have questions, but she said she will remain strong.

"We're going to take it one day at a time, just like I've been doing," Angie added.

Angie Bond knows a chapter is closing. But what she also knows is that she will always have the memories of her husband.
