Day Two in Lam Luong trial

MOBILE, Ala. - Jeff Coolidge said he saw Luong and what looked like a bag of trash go over the edge. He also saw a van with three children inside. Coolidge said one of the little girls smiled at him. Frank Collier testified he saw Luong straddling the guard rail while another witness, Alton Knight, said he saw a little girl with pig tails inside the van on top of the bridge.

Video of Luong after he allegedly threw his children off the bridge was also shown. Captain Darryl Wilson with the Bayou La Batre Police Department held the stand the longest.

The state also played an audio recording of Luong recorded at Mobile Metro jail on January 9th, 2008. In that recording Luong breaks down in tears and said he hopes his children are found alive and insist someone named kim took the babies.

Excerpt from the recording:

Lam Luong : "Lady, and I told you before that night, we partied all night and drink a lot of beer that night, couple of hits smoke (crack) and come home about four or 5:00. I tell you I took a little nap, couple hour. I still high. That's why when I see her and talk to her I don't tell her that much cause she do talk to me and the way she talk, I don't I don't think she I go babies. She take the babies I go on by myself, you know. Myself, babies off me, so I can go. I don't know."

Lam Luong hoped Kim would see the news and bring the kids back.

Darryl Wilson : "Seen the kids on the news, how, do you think she'd come and bring 'em back?"

Lam Luong : "That's right. I hope so. I hope so. Well I truly hope so. I hope she keep kid alive. That's what I hope so. And I still be okay. I do everything for my kids. I do everything for my family. If I go to jail forever, I do too. I love my wife. She everything for me."

Captain Wilson also testified before the recorder was on, Luong asked if any bodies had been found, and said "without any bodies you can't charge me."

Wednesday, the state plans to focus on the search efforts for the four children.
