Deadly Police chase in Pensacola

A Pensacola police officer is on paid administrative leave after being involved in an incident early Saturday morning that resulted in the death of a man.

Officer Jerald Ard, 35, was on patrol around 2a.m. when he noticed what Pensacola Police describe as a suspicious male at a construction site.

The officer attempted to question the man but he fled the area. Officer Ard then attempted to tase the suspect while in pursuit.

The man then crashed his bicycle and fell into the path of the officer's patrol car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigation the crash and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
