PENSACOLA, Fla. - Update: Two suspects were arrested Thursday evening. Both have been charged in the robbery and homicide at Oak Crest Lounge and Package that occurred on October 23.
The two suspects are Brandon Donnell Davis, 20, and David Henry Gilchrist Jr., 20. Both are from Pensacola, Fla.
Thursday afternoon:
The search is on for a man deputies believe committed murder and robbed a Waffle House early this week. Investigators believe 20-year-old Brandon Davis won't stop until he's caught.
Both robberies were caught on surveillance tape.
That video is similar for both crimes: suspects wielding guns with covered faces. The first, at the Oakcrest Lounge and Package, left 25-year-old Jared Ortiz dead. The second was an armed robbery at a Waffle House.
"Evidence gathered at the scene made him a person of interest. Investigators have conducted several interviews that have linked him to Waffle House robbery. Obviously this guy is very dangerous, robberies, now murder," said Sergeant Ted Roy with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Davis is hiding from law enforcement, and they believe he will do so until he is apprehended.
"I think he'll keep doing it, not like he can progress any further, some guys start with thefts, to robbery, then murder. This guy has already committed murder, so I don't know what else he has to lose," Sgt. Roy said.
Wednesday night, deputies thought they may have found him. The same Waffle House investigators believe was robbed by Davis was robbed again. However, they believe it was a copycat robber, not Davis.
"The Waffle House, once it became publicized, you have these copycats. They don't believe this guy in the video was involved in any of the other ones, so he may have just thought, 'Oh that's an easy target, let me go hit a Waffle House,' and he was unsuccessful," added Sgt. Roy.
Deputies have seized the van they believe was used in the murder. They believe it was also used in several other crimes.
Employees at area businesses will be on guard until he's caught.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Brandon Davis is being asked to call Crimestoppers at (850) 433-STOP.
