FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Rallies will be held all over the country come tax day, April 15th. "Our hands are tied, we're frustrated, we don't know what to do, that's the main reasons we're here," said a protestor at a prelude rally in Iowa.
This frustration has reached the Gulf Coast and our area will be having its own TEA party. TEA standing for "Taxed Enough Already." Gene Labrato is one of the local organizers. He said he and his family couldn't just sit and watch what he calls an "out of control" government.
"When we start passing budgets, you know, trillions of dollars, if you face reality social security is gone you cannot borrow enough to cover interest to pay on spending that they are giving to us and our children," Labrato said.
Labrato said it was simple when trying to find what to do to make a difference, just turn to history. He said this is very similar to what happened with the Boston Tea Party. Back then colonists came together to protest the tea tax, and although there won't be any tea thrown into Mobile Bay, this tea party, just like the one long ago, is meant to take a stand.
"We feel a deep loyalty to this country and things seem to be getting more and more out of control and no one seems to have a plan," said Labrato.
But these protestors do have a plan. Come Wednesday, they will meet at the Fairhope pier, and join thousands nationwide to try, as they say, to take back America.
If you are interested in participating, the group will meet starting at 3:00 p.m. As of now, there are more than 2,000 cities participating in the TEA party rallies.
