MOSS POINT, Miss. - UPDATE: Melody Jones has been taken into custody as an accessory after the fact to murder.
Four teenagers have been arrested and charged with capital
murder in the slaying of a Lamar County man who had stopped at a
Moss Point convenience store to ask for directions.
Moss Point Detective Joycelyn Craig said Monday police
arrested 14-year-old Telvin James Benjamin, 15-year-old Darwin
Wells, 15-year-old Terry Hye Jr. and 17-year-old Alonzo Kelly in
the slaying of 44-year-old Michael David Porter. All four are
charged as adults.
Porter was shot Thursday night when he stopped to ask for
directions to the Forrest County Agricultural High School-Gautier
High School football game in Gautier after he and his wife had
missed their highway exit. Police say the Porters were going to the
game to watch their grandson play.
Craig said the shooting was the result of an attempted armed
robbery.
