PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WALA) - Pascagoula Police are searching for several guns and rifles that were taken during a burglary Tuesday afternoon. Thieves struck an apartment on Chicot Road. The victim came home and found his apartment ransacked.
"Glass everywhere, stuff thrown all over the place," Cedron Peairs said.
The back door to Peairs' home is now boarded up. Burglars broke inside the apartment he shares with his two roommates.
"They gained entry into the home. Stole three Playstation consoles and several firearms were taken," Captain Shannon Broom said.
The suspects were pretty bold. The crime happened in the middle of the day at a second floor apartment. The suspects went through painstaking measures just to get inside.
"One stood on the air conditioning unit, the others boosted," Peairs said.
Many of the weapons still haven't been found.
"There are three semi automatic handguns still missing. There's a shotgun missing, a 12 gauge pump shotgun and an assault style rifle. A rifle with a scope on it and a semi automatic, people refer to as a machine pistol or a Mac 10, is still missing," Captain Broom added.
Police said the owners had the guns legally, but they want to find the weapons before they hit the streets.
Through leads, police arrested five suspects. Some of them are teenagers. Police said one of the suspects was Peairs' cousin.
"Kind of hurt. I feel disrespected for someone that close to you to do that. I feel good that they caught them," Peairs said.
Police recovered a Glock handgun after tracking down a lead.
"Any time we have guns get on the street, it become alarming to us. We got a description of a vehicle that the suspects left the apartment in. One of the guys, Benedich Jenkins, jumps out the car and takes off running. One of our officers pursued him. As he's actually running, he takes the gun out and throws it back at the officer," added Captain Broom.
Police are working hard to get the rest of the firearms in their possession. Police said more arrests may come about, when they find where the weapons are stashed.
