MOBILE, Ala. - The state wasted little time getting its point across on day one of the Lam Luong capital murder trial.
"A lot of the information that we provided in the opening statements has already come into evidence," said Mobile County District Attorney, John Tyson Junior.
Luong is accused of throwing his four children off the Dauphin Island Bridge over a year ago. On Monday, prosecutors called on several key witnesses, including the children's 23-year-old mother, Kieu Phan.
Phan burst into tears when images of her four kids were flashed on an overhead screen before the jury. She testified in court that Luong was laughing while he told her the children were quote: "All dead" and there was, "No way that we can find the children."
Luong sat motionless during all of the testimony. Tyson says facts are facts and he's going to let the evidence speak for itself.
"This is a very serious accusation," Tyson said. "Five times capital murder and we have a chance now to lay out for the jury what we expect to prove."
