CHICKASAW, Ala. - Barack Obama broke down many racial barriers in politics. And as
you know, this country is a melting pot and is made up of many
different races and nationalities. Many supporters believe Obama
embodies the ethics and essence of an American leader.
Across the country, pillars in the church community rejoiced
and millions of people of all races, ages and economic backgrounds,
felt victory and triumph when Barack Obama was named the 44th
President of the United States.
Sherry Roberts, the First Lady of Word of Life Community
Church told FOX10 News, "All come together to celebrate this man,
not because of the color of his skin, but because of his education,
his abilities, his knowledge and this possibility of change he put
in all of us."
Roberts says this election caused a monumental change for our
country. She added, "Today was a celebration for us and we woke up
and we thanked God for Barack Obama, we thanked God for his family
and we decreed peace on his family."
She and other supporters prayed for the future, and under
Obama's leadership they believe many communities now have hope.
Church member Lorenzo Martin said, "I believe just like Obama said,
grass roots. Grass roots mean we're going to have to work locally
to make a difference and make a change. I believe yes we can cause
our young people to get a better education than what they're
getting and yes we can not have to allow an elderly woman decide
between her power bill and her medicine."
Church members say every ballot cast for Barack Obama was a
vote for unification and progress.
"Just knowing that an African American can run for President
and actually achieve it, that gave me great hope to know I can do
anything I want to do in life," said college student, Darryl
Patterson.
These church goers open their arms with faith and truly
believe prayer has changed things.
It's evident that Obama faces enormous challenges, stepping
into the White House. But many folks are confident that he will
overcome them.
