MOBILE, Ala. - Necessities like soap, toothpaste, and even water are things many of us don't think twice about. But, for the homeless, these things are hard come by. That's why some local students put in the time to make wellness kits that were handed out.
Kalyn Andrews said giving back makes her feel good, and Monday she did just that.
Andrews is a member of the Impact Club, a Junior Medical Reserves Unit of Volunteer Mobile. The group delivered more than 40 wellness kits to 15 Place, an organization that helps the homeless.
"We decided to do bags for the homeless because we had a lot of extra supplies and we wanted a way to use it for the good," said Andrews.
Andrews said this is a very worthy cause. "It is definitely, especially with hurricanes and things in this area. We should do everything we can to help," Andrews said.
June LaVernway is the coordinator for the more than 30 kids. She said doing things like this will stick with them.
"I really hope it opens their eyes to what problems exist and to be grateful for what they have," LaVernway said.
The kits included items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, blankets, and more. They will be distributed through 15 Place to the homeless population in our area.
The Impact Club is open to all students in junior high and high school who want to give back to their community through volunteerism.
