MOBILE, Ala. -
A speeding truck slammed into the passenger side of a van, killing the driver and five members of Siran Stacy's family. That tragedy hit close to home for some folks in Mobile. Siran Stacy and his family were well known in the area and very involved. Every year Siran participated in the Cornelius Bennett Golf Classic in Mobile. He and his family were close to a lot of people so this is a really sad time.
Former Alabama running back, Siran Stacy is lucky to be alive after the fatal crash that killed his wife Ellen and four of their children. Close friend, Steve Harrelson told FOX10 News, "He had a cracked skull, concussion, some broken ribs and a crushed pelvis."
When Harrelson, heard what happened, he was at a loss for words. He couldn't believe the man who was once the "Pride of the Tide," is now bed ridden, badly injured and dealing with such a grave loss. He said, "We're thinking about you and keeping you in our prayers. Because no one can call up and say I know what you're going through because you can't."
Siran's beloved wife Ellen was a co-captain of the woman's volleyball team at Alabama. Harrelson says the two were inseparable and were a fun loving couple. He says Siran was a great father, always putting the family first.
Soon, Siran's focus will be directed toward his only surviving child. Harrelson said, "His four-year-old daughter, she was air-lifted to the children's hospital at UAB and her injuries appear to be much more serious a lot of internal injuries and head injuries."
At this time it's unsure if Siran is actually aware of the tragedy that's struck his family. Harrelson added, "He brother says he's been told. But we're not sure if he comprehends at this point the severity of his head injuries."
Harrelson is driving to the hospital Wednesday to check on Siran and be there to support him. Stacy's family and friends just ask that you keep them in your prayers during this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
