MOBILE, Ala. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday is Monday and several
events have been planned on the Gulf Coast for the occasion.
BALDWIN EVENT
There will be a March for Peace at 10:30am in Foley. It
will begin at Max Griffin Park and end at the Foley Civic
Center. The Keynote speaker will be Judge James Reid.
MOBILE EVENTS
There will be a march in honor of Dr. King, Monday , January
19th, at Noon in Mobile. It will start at Bishop State
Community College at the corner of Broad St. and MLK. It will
proceed to Lafayette Street, then Springhill Avenue, and end at
Lyons Park.
WGOK will hold a gospel concert in the park following the
keynote speaker address.
There will be a breakfast Monday morning in honor of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Junior's birthday. The event is being sponsored by the
Blacks in Government. The breakfast will be
held Monday morning at 8 a.m. at the Bishop State Central
Campus.
The University of South Alabama is holding a MLK
Day of Service. The special day will include Health Screenings,
computer training and various Sports Clinics just to name a
few.
The event will be locate at the Sybil Smith Village on 111
Mobile Street from 11 a.m to 1 p.m
Members form the college will also volunteer to make home
repairs and clean the yards for those in need.
Volunteer Mobile has also put together some
volunteer events to help the community. More than 100
volunteers will be gathering in Bayou La Batre Monday morning to
help clean the area up.
Some of the scheduled projects include cleaning up yards,
revitalizing a local park, and painting a disabled man's home.
Another project is a health fair. It will be held at 13833
Tapia Lane in Bayou La Batre. The health fair will be held
from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, January 19th.

Closings
There will be no garbage or trash pick-up, Monday, January
19th. If you garbage is scheduled for Monday pick-up, it will
be picked up Wednesday, January 21st. There will not be a
make-up for Monday's trash pick-up. You'll have to wait till
the next scheduled pick-up date.
WAVE Transit Buses will not be running in Mobile Monday, January
19th. Regular routes resume Tuesday, January 20th.
Most Banks are closed on Monday, January 19th.
City and County offices are also closed Monday, January
19th.
No classes for Mobile and Baldwin county public schools.
No classes for Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia county
public schools.
