WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama said the U.S. is taking "all necessary
precautions" to deal with the swine flu outbreak in case it turns
into "something worse."
The president spoke today with Mexican President Felipe
Calderon, whose country has seen hundreds infected and at least 16
killed by the virus.
The White House said the leaders shared information on
efforts to limit the outbreak. A White House official said the
call, which Calderon had requested, was friendly and productive.
During his weekly radio address, Obama said because the swine
flu strain is new, people haven't developed an immunity to it,
making it more dangerous.
Obama noted the flu strain "can be defeated by a course of
antiviral treatment." He said about 12 million courses of the
treatment have been distributed to states.
