NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Odds are you haven't heard of Naperville, Illinois. But the residents there might be on to something when it comes to fighting a national epidemic.
A simple Google search on childhood obesity yields more than two million hits. One headline reads, "Americans waistline continue to expand." But in Naperville the story is different.
Only three-percent of students there are overweight. Compare that to the national average of 18-percent and you have to wonder what their secret is.
That secret is a new kind of P.E. It's called P.E. 4 Life and it's a non-profit organization with a simple philosophy to get all kids moving and then keep them moving.
P.E. teacher Todd Keating told FOX10 News, "I try to teach activities that students can do for a lifetime."
Naperville schools have been using the program for years. Instead of teaching sports and games, P.E. 4 Life encourages gym teachers to come up with more creative lessons.
