PENSACOLA, Fla. - Investigators are looking for two pit bulls that were stolen from the Escambia County Animal Shelter.

It happened some time between Sunday night and early Monday morning. The two dogs had previously attacked a child and two other dogs, and were on death row.

The Escambia County Animal Shelter was closed and locked up, but someone made it through the fence and stole them.

"It was cut and peeled back," Escambia County Spokesperson Sonya Daniels said.

Investigators say once the suspects got in here, they cut the lock off cage 104 and took the two dogs inside. Then they broke into another cage, but left the dog in there.

It appears the suspect was only after two certain dogs. Jada and Coco were seized from a home on Sandlewood Drive, after investigators say they attacked a neighbors child and two other dogs.

The case was set to be heard by a judge Monday morning.

"They were part of a dangerous and vicious criminal investigation. That case was scheduled to go to court Monday, and of course without the dogs that case didn't go to court," Daniels said.

If the county was awarded custody, the dogs would have been put to sleep within 10 days. The dog's owners told investigators they haven't seen them and didn't know they were missing.

If you have any idea who took the dogs, call the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
