Spring breakers are out in full force this week, but they're not the only ones. "Traffic is extremely heavy and its been so since school let out this past weekend," said one officer.

The Foley police department is keeping a close eye on illegal drug use and alcohol with a special DUI Task Force and they say it's not too hard to spot, "You know, they just can't keep their vehicle in one lane."

Sgt. Otis Miller is one of the many officers on the road. He says with so many people coming through town, there's zero tolerance for any illegal activity. "We don't want anyone to be injured just because they're out here to have what they call a good time,” said Sgt. Otis Miller with the Foley Police Department.

The Foley Police Department is seeing a spike in both tickets and arrests, but officers say that's better than the alternative. "If it takes that to save a life, to protect the person and the public, we'll do what we have to do."

They want to make sure you know, if you plan to drink while having fun

David Wilson with the Foley Police Department told FOX10 News, they want people to “come down and enjoy yourself but get a designated driver. Don’t drink and drive, do drive safely. We want people to be safe out on our roads.” He also said he wants people to use the designated driver program and there are officers out looking for DUIs.
