ELBERTA, Ala. - There are 366 foreclosure properties in Mobile and Baldwin Counties, and there are no signs that number is going to go anywhere but up.

Deborah Benton says the houses on her website are listed for a quick sale. It only costs the seller $1 to post their property. It's a buck that could save some distressed homeowners from foreclosure.

Benton said it's a resource that wasn't available to her when she lost her home to foreclosure last year.

"I blamed myself, and I was devastated. I was in the shower crying. I was asking for guidance, a way to help other people avoid what we'd been through, and it was a nightmare," Benton said.

The new website is www.RealEstateAgentsArePeople2.com. It's not only an outlet to sell distressed property, it's goal is to help people save their homes.

"We've got to help each other," she said.

Before the economy ultimately turns around Benton said many more people could end up in the same situation she was in just last year. She said her goal is to make sure they have options, and they know where to find them.

"I've done a need help page, and given as much assistance as I can find for Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Now the goal is to have a similar web page for every county in the U.S.," she said.

Homeowners who are facing foreclosure can go to the website to find out about the steps to negotiating with your lender, credit counseling information, medical assistance, and a wealth of other information for a family in financial distress.

Benton is hoping the economic stimulus package approved by the Senate this week will help more people refinance their current mortgages, and avoid foreclosure.

In the meantime she's organizing a "Homeowners Financial Crisis Day." The tentative date is March 14, at the Foley Civic Center. The event will feature free assistance and information for distressed homeowners.
