The Junior League of Mobile and the Home builders Association of Mobile are teaming up to help some special children. All month long, they'll be remodeling several rooms at St. Mary's Childrens home. They want to give the kids a better environment and show them some love at the same time.
A little, paint, a little varnish, and a lot of elbow grease. This is how women from the Junior League of Mobile are spending their weekends in March. Melissa Coumanis with the Junior League told us, " We're redoing the walls and replacing some furniture and just cleaning things up and making it look nice for them."
The home, which is a shelter for abused and neglected children, operates on a mix of government funding and charity... And there's rarely enough left over for improvements. St. Mary's Volunteer Director, Andy Rehm said, " We barely have the budget to keep 45 children taken care of much less redo and upgrade so much."
Coumanis said the remodeling will not only will make things nicer it will set a good example.
" Not only are we giving back to the community in a very real way, but were also mentoring the kids that live here to show them what effect that sort of giving can be and useful that is to the rest of the community."
" When they see all these young women coming out and caring enough to spend their weekends here helping their home look better, that just makes us all feel better, the staff and the children." Rehm said.
There will be a reveal party for the finished rooms on Sunday April 5th. If you would like to donate money or time you can go to: www.juniorleaguemobile.org or call St. Mary's Home at: (251) 344-7733.
