MOBILE, Ala. - The National Weather Service held a storm spotter class Saturday and it was held at Fox Ten's studio.
Dozens of people showed up to learn what it takes to be a trained storm spotter.
Jeff Medlin with the National Weather Service gave the
presentation and told people what to look for and report. Fox Ten's
meteorologist John Edd Thompson, Jason Smith and Matt Barrentine
were also there to help.
One of the lessons people learned was that human eyes still
beat technology.
" Despite the radar technology that we have and all the models, there's nothing like ground truth and a set of eyes and ears on the ground really goes a long way to verifying what's going on and passing that information along to people when it counts the most" Medlin said.
Many people at the meeting also signed up to be Fox Ten Storm
Trackers and were given weather monitoring equipment.
The information they record will be used our newscasts.
