Suspect arrested in four carjackings

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Police have arrested a 26-year-old Mobile man on kidnapping, robbery and rape charges in connection with four carjackings, including two that occurred at a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Frank Thomas Hicks was arrested Sunday and taken to Mobile County Metro Jail where he was being held without bail Tuesday afternoon. Mobile County court records show that Hicks was previously convicted of assault and was awaiting arraignment on a weapons violation charge.

Mobile police spokeswoman Officer Jackie Bridgeforth said the carjackings began Dec. 6 and apparently ended Dec. 13 with the rape of one of the victims.

Two of the carjackings occurred in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Beltline Highway. Wal-Mart spokesman Dan Fogleman said he was glad an arrest had been made.
