MOBILE, Ala. - "This is my part in making the world a better place for my kids to grow up in," said Theresa Heinz. "So, that's why I do my job." But the job is changing for Heinz. She's one of three Assistant District Attorney's taking over for Steve Giardini.
Giardini abruptly resigned from his duties as a child abuse prosecutor at the DA's office and the Child Advocacy Center after the FBI searched his home. "We all help each other out and obviously this is a large part of what we do out at the child advocacy center. So, everybody just does their part," Heinz said.
Mobile County District Attorney, John Tyson Junior announced the reorganization at a news conference Thursday afternoon. "Interestingly enough, they volunteered," he said. But how long this three-person team will be in place, is unknown. "That is still to be determined," said Heinz. "Basically our job is to go out and determine what the needs of the child advocacy center are."
While getting things back on track and back to normal. "We're full of good people and they're stepping up to the plate and want to make sure the children in this community that are affected by these kinds of things are protected and represented," Tyson said.
Assistant District Attorney's Michael Hickman and Matt Seymour will also be handling Giardini's cases. The search warrant served at Giardini's home is still sealed. Giardini hasn't been charged with any crime.
