Transcripts read in court for Luong case

MOBILE, Ala. - The state wasted little time getting right to the point on day one of the Lam Luong capital murder trial. Prosecutors called on the children's mother, grandmother and police investigators to testify Monday morning.

Lam Luong sat motionless during the first day of testimony in his capital murder trial. Luong is accused of throwing his four children off the Dauphin Island Bridge.

On Monday, prosecutors called on several key witnesses including his common law wife and the Bayou La Batre police officer that interviewed him after the alleged murders.

Prosecutors provided several transcripts along with audio and video of the initial interrogations of Lam Luong on January 8, 2008, at the Bayou La Batre Police Department.
During that interview investigators asked Luong quote:

"So, how long have you been thinking about killing them?" "When they treat me bad," Luong said.

The investigator pushed further asking, "I mean 6 months ago? A year ago? Luong replied, "No, I don't know when."

But then said,"Actually probably a couple months or something." The recorded interview was about 45 minutes long.

Luong just watched with little expression while the video was played.
Investigators also asked quote, "Were you planning on killing yourself after you threw them over? Luong said, "At one minute."

The investigator continued, "How come you didn't jump off the bridge with them after you threw them over?" Luong's reply? "I wanted to see what my wife and family looked like."

Mobile County District Attorney, John Tyson, Jr. says the prosecution will remain tight-lipped regarding the trial because it wants to leave no room for error.

"I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that we're just going to have to try this case once," Tyson said.

The state says it doesn't know how long the trial will last. But it should be done presenting its evidence in about a week.
