PENSACOLA, Fla. - Diane Lowery spends every day taking care of horses but her
organization, the Panhandle Equine Rescue can't afford to take care
of all of them anymore. Lowery told FOX10 News, "We have 18 horses
in foster care which is quite costly."
Taking caring of 18 horses isn't easy, they need a whole lot
of food, about 180 pounds a day. Lowery, "It's a major thing, it's
a non-stop need. That's why they're trying to adopt out 12 of the
horses this weekend. They don't have room for any more.
Lowery said this has been their most expensive year and at
the same time, donations have gone down. "Between the vet, the
feed, the hay, the de-worming, very costly," she added.
She fears many of these horses won't be adopted because folks
can't afford to take on any more responsibility. If donations stay
down, she says many other abused horses will continue to suffer.
"The horses that are still out there, there going to be in
trouble and they are going to die, because there won't be anyone
out there to help them.
The adoption day will be held at the Escambia County
Equestrian Center Saturday, October 25th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00
p.m.
