MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - The quaint area of Miramar beach became an horrific crime scene early Thursday morning. Sandy Futrell said, “I heard five or six pops.”

Futrell lives one door down from where the victims lived and heard it all unfold. Futrell said, "About 1:45 was woke up by gunshots."

Fuetrell immediately called 911. Deputies found two people dead and three others shot. They say the victims' neighbor 60-year-old Dannie baker, went on a shooting spree. "It's extremely tragic," said Walton County Sheriff Mike Adkinson.

Deputies say the suspect fled back to his townhome and he barricaded himself for four hours. Sheriff Atkinson said, "We were willing to wait however long, we knew he was in there and there was no one else inside, we wanted to make sure everyone got out safely."

Baker is now in the Walton County jail. Futrell says everyone that lives in the complex is shaken up. She keeps thinking about the victims, she says they were all students from Chile here on a work visa.

She said, "They were great kids, they were here to work and this will be their memory of America." Right now, the first priority for deputies is to to let the families know what happened.

Baker is charged with two counts of murder. The victims names aren’t being released until family is notified. The three survivors are still in the hospital, one is in critical condition, another is in stable condition, and the third is in good condition.

The sheriff's office doesn't have a motive, but they did confirm that citizens had filed reports with them in August 2008 claiming Baker had circulated e-mails that threatened national political candidates.
