SUMMERDALE, Ala. - The judge sentenced Whetstone to 40 hours of community service, a $500 fine, and 12-months probation. Special Prosecutor Richard Jensen said despite Whetstone's high profile status, the sentence is not a slap on the wrist.

"This is an adjudication that is available to any defendant in Alabama," said Jensen. "Someone that's never been in trouble before can plead guilty, admit they made a mistake and the court can withhold adjudication. Give them a chance to prove themselves and at the end of the twelve month period the case is dismissed, So it's a very fair resolution."

Whetstone was stopped by Summerdale Police just before Christmas near the Foley Beach express. The former D-A tells us he was drinking at a holiday party and was driving home when he was pulled over. It's something he does not plan to do again.

"I am very lucky that the police officers of Summerdale that made the stop. He did the right thing, I did the wrong thing and the court sentenced me appropriately," said Whetstone. Whetstone admitted seeing familiar faces in court.

"Most of the lawyers in the were my assistant DA's, most of the police officers I served in the time of danger. This was tough." Now Whetstone is thinking about how he will carry out his community service. "I think there are ways to use experience for good and I want to use it for good."
