MOBILE, Ala. - The body of a local Marine killed in Afghanistan is expected to arrive at Mobile Regional Airport on Sunday, August 16. Lance Cpl. Bruce Ferrell, Jr., 21, was killed when he stepped on an IED.
The gunnery sergeant from Ferrell's Marine unit delivered the news Tuesday morning to the family.
Bruce Ferrell, Sr. said his son had recently joined the Marines, and was serving his first deployment. He was expected to serve seven months in Afghanistan. The family talked to Ferrell, Jr. for the last time on Saturday.
Ferrell, Jr.'s wake will be held Sunday, August 16 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bay Minette Civic Center. His funeral will be Monday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Civic Center. Norris Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
