MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Alabama Department of Public Safety ( ADPS) said two people died in an accident on Friday  that may have involved narcotics usage by one of the drivers.

State Troopers arrested John Lopez, of Theodore, on two charges of vehicular homicide in connection with the crash on the General W.K Wilson, or Dolly Parton, bridge around 7:30 this morning.

The ADPS said when Lopez apparently stopped the Grove North America crane he was driving in the right lane, James Barber's truck struck it from behind. Barber and his passenger, Lorine Frazier, were both pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities said neither of them were using a seatbelt. Details of the accident are still under investigation.

Both lanes of traffic on the southbound side of the bridge had to be closed until around 2:30 p.m. after the accident.
