Court asked to lift Greenetrack order

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The governor's gambling task force has asked the Alabama Supreme Court to strike down an order by a Greene County circuit judge that protects electronic bingo operations at Greenetrack.

The appeal filed Tuesday by task force Commander John Tyson Jr. says the action taken by Circuit Judge Eddie Hardaway was a "sham" to protect illegal gambling interests in the county.

Several state troopers went to Greenetrack on Friday to inspect the machines, but Hardaway's order blocked any action pending a hearing before the judge June 28. Tyson said it was a ploy aimed at defying Alabama Supreme Court rulings against the machines as long as possible.
