MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Alabama Power said as of 6 p.m. on Christmas Day , they had 22,500 customers across the state with power knocked out by severe storms. They said most of those, 17,500 or so, are in the Mobile area where there are reports of a tornado touching down.

They also reported via their Twitter account the weather conditions have improved enough to the point where their crews can start damage assessment.

They ask that you  stay plugged in to a good source for weather information. If your power goes out, call Alabama Power at 800-888-2726.

They said despite the holiday, crews are out making repairs.
