PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) — The idea of creating a museum to showcase the history of Phenix City is expected to come before the city council.

Phenix City Councilman Jim Cannon tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (http://bit.ly/ZcYWHh) that he wants a museum to showcase the city's history.

Cannon envisions the museum as reflecting the city's entire past, from the frontier days when Creek Indians lived in the area to the career of 1970s country music star Freddie Hart.

He said it should also include the era dominated by organized crime, when brothels and honkytonks lined the streets and the sound of slot machines filled the air.

Cannon says he plans to introduce a resolution to the council Wednesday to establish a museum advisory committee, with an eye toward forming a non-profit organization to operate the city museum.
